Children’s Program (Ages 5-12)
The KARS (Kids Achieving Resiliency and Success Program) is a short-term, co-ed TRICARE Certified program for moderately to severely emotionally disturbed children ages 6 through 11. This mental health program is designed for behaviorally reactive children with significant impairment in behavioral, cognitive, emotional, familial and/or social functioning. Three Rivers Midlands uses the Kimochis© program which are communication tools that help children manage feelings in positive ways to promote well-being and success in school and life.
Adolescent Programs (Ages 12-18)
The KEYS (Knowledge and Excellence for Your Success) is a strengths-based, short-term, co-ed, TRICARE Certified program for adolescents ages 12 to 17 ½ using cognitive behavioral therapy.
This mental health program approaches adolescents suffering from major mental illness and/or serious emotional disturbance with the belief that every crisis is an opportunity for change. While this is not a suitable program for youth with a primary diagnosis of substance abuse, we do accept dual-diagnosis adolescents with a secondary diagnosis of chemical dependency, eating disorders, self-injurious or other addictive behaviors.
New Horizon (Female Only)
New Horizons at Three Rivers Midlands provides psychiatric and behavioral health treatment services for female adolescents ages 12 to 21 with an Axis I or an Axis II psychiatric disorder. We deliver services in a residential setting with awake supervision 24 hours a day. A unique aspect to this program is the independent living skills pathway where residents learn basic life and care skills to prepare for independence in the near future.
Our approach to assessment and treatment of adolescents is individualized based on each patient’s needs. Our goal is to move the adolescent toward significant improvement in order to allow placement or a return to a less restrictive environment when discharged.
Synergy (Male Only)
The Synergy program provides short term general psychiatric and behavioral health treatment services for male adolescents ages 12 to 21 with an Axis I and/or Axis II psychiatric disorder.
Services are delivered in a residential setting, with awake supervision 24 hours a day. The approach to assessment and treatment of adolescents is an individualized psychological and developmental perspective. A unique aspect to this program is the independent living skills pathway where residents learn basic life and care skills to prepare for independence in the near future.
The curriculum taught at Three Rivers Midlands is aligned with South Carolina’s state standards. Teachers have bachelor’s or master’s degrees and are certified in the state. During the summer months, a seven- to eight-week enrichment program is held that allows students to participate in art, music, drama, cooking and sewing.
