What to Expect

At Three Rivers Midlands, we understand that beginning residential treatment can feel overwhelming for both adolescents and their families. Our goal is to provide a structured and supportive environment while keeping families informed throughout the treatment process.

Admission Day

On the day of admission, families will complete the intake and assessment process with our admissions and clinical team. During this time:

  • Medical, behavioral and psychiatric information will be reviewed
  • A safety assessment will be completed
  • Personal belongings will be checked according to facility guidelines
  • Patients will be oriented to the unit, schedule and expectations
  • Families will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns

Beginning Treatment

Treatment planning begins immediately upon admission. During the first few days of treatment, patients can expect:

  • An initial psychiatric and medical evaluation
  • Assignment to a primary therapist
  • Participation in daily group therapy and structured programming
  • Development of an individualized treatment plan focused on emotional, behavioral and clinical needs

Therapy and Clinical Services

Patients will participate in a variety of therapeutic services throughout their stay, including:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Trauma-informed treatment approaches
  • Psychiatric and medication management services
  • Educational and behavioral support

Patients typically meet with their therapist within the first few working days following admission. Psychiatric and medical evaluations are also completed early in the treatment process to help support appropriate care and treatment recommendations.

Education Services

Education is provided Monday through Friday to help patients maintain academic progress while receiving treatment. Our educational programming is designed to support continued learning in a structured environment.

Family Communication and Visitation

Family involvement is an important part of the treatment process. Communication guidelines, visitation expectations and approved contact schedules will be reviewed with families during admission. Certain restrictions or no-contact timeframes may apply early in treatment to help patients adjust and stabilize clinically.

Discharge Planning

Discharge planning begins at admission to help ensure a smooth transition back into the community. Our team works closely with families, outpatient providers, schools and support systems to coordinate aftercare recommendations and ongoing treatment needs.

Supporting Your Child’s Journey

The first few weeks of treatment are focused on stabilization, building trust, establishing routines and identifying clinical goals. Our team is committed to partnering with families every step of the way to support long-term success and healing.
